Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are heading back to the small screen.

The trio kicked off filming the first episode of their new motoring show just outside of Johannesburg and Southern Lighting Solutions was proud to be a part of it.

At the invitation of Panalux South Africa, we were delighted to join them to supply specialised lighting for the debut of The Grand Tour, which was filmed this past weekend.

Although a lot of the specifics of the show have been shrouded in secrecy, the team did take the time to share a few snapshots of their debut on Twitter:

“Some people came to see our first ever Grand Tour show today. God, I love Johannesburg.” – Jeremy Clarkson.

“So, today we opened our new office. In South Africa this week. Next week … ?” – Richard Hammond.

Despite the challenging timeframe, large amount of equipment required, as well as the remote location, this amazing show went off without a hitch. This proves once again that Southern Lighting Solutions is your go-to lighting specialist which can assist with YOUR production.

BBC’s The Getaway Car, which was filmed in Cape Town has been nominated for a Rose d’Or Award in the category of Best Game Show.

This is the 55th annual Rose d’Or Awards which honour the best in international radio, television, and online entertainment. The winners will be decided at a ceremony in Berlin on 13 September.

Over 400 programmes from more than 130 broadcasters and production companies in 33 different countries were submitted for this year’s awards.

“The response from across the entertainment world has been incredible,” said European Broadcast Union Head of Television and Rose d’Or organiser Jeroen Depraetere. “With such high levels of creativity on show this year, our juries have had a tough job selecting the nominees competing to win a Rose d’Or trophy in Berlin. The EBU is proud that once again the Rose d’Or Awards can provide a platform for the world’s best entertainment programme-makers.”

Southern Lighting Solutions is so proud to have provided the lighting for this show. Congratulations to everyone who worked on it.

Five students studying cinematography and four drama students attended the workshop to gain experience working with lighting equipment.

The workshop focused on safety methods, maintenance tips and derigging. The students also learned how to complete various set ups with coloured gels.

“The students were inquisitive and appreciative. Sizo Makhathini stood out as the most knowledgeable and keen student,” says Durban Branch Manager, Mark Annandale.
