Students from AFDA, the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance, recently attended a workshop at the Southern Lighting Solutions Durban Branch.
Five students studying cinematography and four drama students attended the workshop to gain experience working with lighting equipment.
The workshop focused on safety methods, maintenance tips and derigging. The students also learned how to complete various set ups with coloured gels.
“The students were inquisitive and appreciative. Sizo Makhathini stood out as the most knowledgeable and keen student,” says Durban Branch Manager, Mark Annandale.
The Durban Branch has been up and running for the past year. They provide the same great service you have come to expect from Southern Lighting Solutions.
Mark is on hand to assist in any production lighting queries as well as provide the right equipment for your production.

The BBC’s latest flagship programme, The Getaway Car is currently airing in England.
Who did the producers turn to as their lighting company of choice? Southern Lighting Solutions, of course!
Filmed in Cape Town the show is hosted by Dermot O’Leary and features Top Gear’s The Stig. Five pairs of contestants are pitted against each other in car-based challenges that test their nerves and communication skills.
In the final round, they take on the Stig to try and win £10,000 and the title of Getaway Champions.
